After several productive weeks of grazing, the goats have officially wrapped up their seasonal work along the Terrace. Their efforts significantly reduced invasive growth—especially Japanese knotweed, which they seemed to favor—while also clearing the lower portions of larger plants and opening up long-overgrown areas.

Once the goats moved on, the Sea Girt DPW stepped in to continue the restoration. Using chainsaws, brush mowers, and other low-impact equipment, the team carefully removed remaining invasive shrubs and trees while protecting the soil from erosion. During their work, they uncovered a fascinating piece of local history: a bottle from 1910 found in an old campfire site. Over a century ago, Wreck Pond had sandy beaches, and the area was a popular spot for fishing and swimming.

The goats may be gone for now, but the volunteers and DPW team are keeping the momentum going—helping restore this part of Sea Girt to a healthier, more natural state.
