At a recent Sea Girt Borough Council meeting, Councilwoman Anthony announced the return of the borough’s targeted goat grazing program after last summer’s pilot project proved effective in clearing invasive vegetation along the Wreck Pond watershed.

Expected time of their arrival will be 3rd or 4th week of May, graze for approximately 3.5-4 weeks, leave to another site elsewhere in NJ, and return to SG in August for another 4 weeks.

They will be re-grazing on the site between 4th–5th blocks AND the acre between 3rd–4th blocks along The Terrace. The objective is the same as last year… minimizing the negative impact of invasive plants in this region along Wreck Pond watershed, in a natural and environmentally friendly manner, thus minimizing the use of herbicides and heavy mechanical equipment and labor. Overall goal includes what SGC is proposing along The Terrace.

The initiative is a collaborative effort involving Sea Girt Borough, the Sea Girt Conservancy, and public-private partners, aimed at managing invasive species while restoring natural habitat in an environmentally sustainable way.
