In collaboration with the Sea Girt Conservancy and Sea Girt Elementary School, a meaningful environmental initiative was led by Holly Boyer, Pre-High/STEM teacher, to support local ecosystems and deepen student learning. Central to the project is the planting of milkweed, a critical host plant for monarch butterflies. Milkweed provides the only location where monarchs lay their eggs and serves as the primary food source for their larvae, making it essential to the species’ survival as populations continue to decline.

Through this partnership, students applied their understanding of ecology in a real-world context by preparing and planting milkweed seed balls. As part of the experience, students took a walking field trip to Edgemere Park, where they will planted the milkweed, directly contributing to local conservation efforts while fostering a strong sense of environmental stewardship.
